This photo, called Smartphone Society is the modern day depiction of our world where the smartphone is now an essential part of life for many. For this assignment, I decided to use this photo to illustrate how attached students are to their phones. When I was in high school and anytime a fight broke out between students the first thing that most students would do is (1) form a crowd to watch and (2) take out their cellphones to record. In this photo, it seems as though most of the individuals are in their late teens or early twenties, the type of generation that is the most involved in the online world.
When making the caption for this photo I laughed, like a moron, to myself for at least 10 minutes. This was a great moment to reminisce all of the high school fights I had seen and how, although I never recorded I always found myself in the crowd watching, never mustering up the courage to jump in and try to break it up. This leads me to ask this question, are we so involved in our online personas that we neglect to think about the safety of others?
